Why We Are Here: Our "Fit...Where You Live" Mission
The Jacksonville area is rich in so many ways; in history, the arts, protected lands, friendly people, and now - in fitness! We want Jackonsville fitness to be fun, affordable, accessible, community-based and green. Why drive to the club when you can walk to your workout? Here is our Mission Statement and reasons why we feel our approach to fitness will work for you.
Outdoor Odyssey's Mission is to safely and effectively use outdoor spaces and functional fitness techniques to train, educate and help our clients realize their health and wellness goals. We want fitness to be an integrated, natural and sustainable part of our lives and, in doing so, to positively impact the quality of life of our community.

SOME GOOD REASONS TO GO OUTSIDE TO PLAY!
1. NATURE WILL IMPROVE YOUR WORKOUT...Why? Fields and trails have turns, uneven surfaces and obstacles that create a need for the body to react and move in the three planes that define space. This natural multi-planar movement is an element of "functional" training and contributes to enhancing balance and stability - working deep intrinsic or "core" muscles more completely and effectively building strong and smart bodies. Additionally, grass is one of the best surfaces to exercise on. It's a natural shock absorber and can significantly reduce the wear and tear on your joints.
2. THE AIR "OUT THERE" IS BETTER...Studies of human exposure to air pollutants by the EPA indicate that indoor levels of pollutants may be 2 to 5 times, and occasionally more than 100 times, higher than outdoor pollutant levels.The proliferation of unnatural airborne fibers and particles from carpet, clothing and a host of other contaminants such as aerosols from deodorant and hair sprays are only some of the contributing elements of indoor pollution. Indoor air quality is a serious concern. Indoor spaces such as gyms have become breeding grounds for bacteria, mold and fungi via heavy usage, heat, sweat, and in most instances, little light and fresh air circulation.
3. YOU NEED A LITTLE MORE SUNSHINE!...A number of recent studies suggest that we, as a population, are Vitamin D deficient. The "Sun Vitamin" plays an important roll in keeping bones strong and in helping prevent autoimmune diseases and cancer. So go outside - to play!
4. UNITED WE STAND IN WELLNESS...Exercising in a group creates friendships, healthy camaraderie and accountability - all of which foster positive fitness results! We are social and group-oriented going back to the times when we hunted and gathered for our collective survival. We can be supported and empowered in group exercise settings and it's great to feel empowered while working out.
5. MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK...Group training allows you to exercise with a fitness professional for a fraction (1/5-6th!) of the cost of personal training.
6. OUR APPROACH ADDRESSES CURRENT TRENDS IN FITNESS...A recent American Council on Exercise report on fitness trends in 2010 shows that when it comes to fitness more Americans are budget conscious, interested in group training and desire more time-efficient workouts. This study also points to a need for functional fitness training approaches under the expert care of credentialed fitness professionals.
